About me

Hi! I’m Will, an independent Environmental Data Scientist. Operating through my consultancy, Gaiametric.

I partner with environmental organizations, research institutions, land managers and more to turn complex ecological data into clear, high-impact technical solutions.

In my 9 years in this space I’ve engineered data pipelines for multi-million pound infrastructure projects, developed new tools and techniques for biodiversity monitoring and scalable spatial analysis and conducted cutting edge research into everything from LiDAR and accelerometers to eDNA and ecological modelling.

I hold an MSc in Environmental Data Science and Machine Learning (Imperial College London) and a BSc in Environmental Science (Northumbria University).

More importantly, I am incredibly passionate about what I do and about making a positive impact on the natural world. My approach is friendly, honest and highly flexible so please reach out if you’d like to have a no-obligation chat about working together.

Ken Thompson, Project Manager - The International Barcode of Life Consortium

Will was fantastic to work with on a highly diverse array of projects. He consistently transformed complex data landscapes into highly interpretable dashboards, which were quickly adapted in response to stakeholder feedback. He quickly built reproducible and complex machine learning models to produce general insights about data generated via DNA barcoding and metabarcoding. I highly recommend Will for all data science and machine learning projects.
